Paintings - Ocean

Rising early in the morning I take my sketchbook to Clay Head or the Mohegan Bluffs on Block Island and paint.
Every year I visit the same rock outcroppings as one would old friends.

How do I choose my subject? The amount of jewel like seaweed undulating in the surf.

Along Clay Head outcroppings of Pots & Kettles, a geological formation made up of a mixture of cobbles, gravel, and sand cemented in a matrix by iron oxide, appear in the shifting sand. When they break apart cup-like holes are relieved.

What is a scenic view? Is it only nature? Or is it also what we value. I remember seeing windmills off the coast of Amsterdam before wind farms like this one on Block Island were being built and thinking, “what a wonderful sight”.

One of my greatest joys is swimming in the ocean. I can body surf for hours. Skimming through the water propelled by the momentum of a wave my soul is fully free.
