Laser Cutting

In 2016 I opened FreeFall Laser, a laser cutting studio specializing in collaborating with artists on custom projects.
In my own work, I use the laser cutting to explore new ways of working with materials by re-imagining drawings from my sketchbook.

Inspired by collaborations with woodworkers and bookbinders I create images in veneer, parchment, and leather. The compositions of gestural marks suggesting landscape are developed from details of drawings in my sketchbook. I am fascinated by how the multiple images can be created from the same template by simply altering the arrangement of values and materials.

In these multi-layered laser engraved prints, I combine drawings from my sketchbook to create new interpretations of the landscape.

Created while an artist in residence at the Dundee Art Center in Dundee, Scotland, these laser engraved prints were created by collaborating with the laser cutter to create improvisation images that do not exist as digital files.
